Description: The body of this fish is green, darker dorsally.
Mature male fish develop a red color on the body. Mature female has tree dark black
strips on her body. Sometimes all body develop black according to the
environment conditions. Males are bright in color than females and red colorification
occurs only on males body.
Size: This fish is grows up to 5-6 cm long.
They normally take 8-9 year to become 6 cm long.
Habitat:
This fish lives in clear shallow water bodies and prefers
sandy, gravel bottom. Also Occurs within revers and tanks.
Breeding:
This fish release
eggs to slowly shallow water. Eggs are hatch in one or two days. Fry are freely
swim close to water plants.
Status: Endemic to sri lanka. Common within
the wet zone. But decreasing population due to forest clearance.
